Ep1 - Your computer is like your kitchen. REALLY.

[The Right-Brain geek podcast was called Roots for creativity podcast in the first episodes. ]

In this episode, I try to make you see your computer in a different way.

Hi guys, this is episode one. I want to talk about your computer today. Lots of my friends are really afraid of computers. they're afraid of breaking them. They think they're going to pull their hair out trying to do anything on them, so they don't even try.

I don't want you to be in this position. Your computer can be such a friend. It can help you in so many ways. and you are more able than you think.
What if I was to tell you that your computer is like your kitchen?

But before we get there, let's take a deep breath.

ep 001There, better.

so your computer is like a kitchen.

No I'm not high on illegal substances.
You know when you arrive in a kitchen, any kitchen, you kind of expect certain things to be in certain places...
and you know there are always tools you can rely on: something to cut, something to cook, some place to keep plates and the food.

Your computer is just the same.

Once you know where these places are, what the basic things are. You'll be fine.
You just need to look at your computer like something you already know.
For example, you wouldn't look in your fridge to find pasta or rice.
Same. Once you know where your documents are in your computer, you won't look for them long.

Same for Softwares.

If you are on a Mac, if you look at a menu, you know it's the top bar at the top of the screen.
Once you open a software, they are always kind of the same way.
You always have the "File" menu first on the left, that's where the main document actions stay. Like save, print, export...
A bit further on the right, you have View or Display.
And at the end on the very right, you can always find the Help section.
It's always the same logic. So when you open a new software, take a deep breath and look at it for a minute. Look at the top menu. Take a look at the menu and you'll find your way in.
They always go from the document actions to the more tiny details and finally the help on the right.
All softwares nowadays have a help section, So if you type any question there, you'll find some answers and you'll be able to learn how to use it.
