In lots of Facebook groups, all around me, I can see lots of question around WordPress, because people can’t really understand how it works, what it’s made of.
WordPress is a great software, it’s free to use (though you need to pay for hosting).
It’s a great way to build a website. It can also create lots of frustration when you don’t know its parts or what you can do and cannot do with it safely.
Today I thought I would explain a bit what is what in a WordPress site with a metaphor to make it easier. You'll have the answer to these questions.
- What is WordPress?
- What is a plugin?
- What is a widget?
- What is a theme and can I change it easily?
- Why should I be careful with Drag-and-drop themes like Divi

- WordPress.org. (WordPress.com is a blogging platform and not really suitable for a business)
- Free responsive themes in the WordPress directories
